Brussel "Long Island" (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera) belongs to the early varieties. It produces dozens of small heads on every plant. Its vegetation period from the sow to the harvest lasts 90 to 102 days. This Brussels sprout variety forms thick, stiff stem that may grow even 1 m tall. It is densely covered with leaves. Small heads grow from the leaf bases. "Long Island" cultivar is very productive and may sprout 40 to 60 heads on one stem. They take on vivid, dark green colour and are very compact. This variety is recommended for autumn-winter harvest and intended mostly for direct consumption.
